"Sensing" principles in microphones

The project explores ideas for variation of the sensing (aftastnings) principle within the framework of the known condenser microphone as the basic construction. The general idea is to detect the pattern of the membrane movement in order to gain information about the whole sound field beyond simply the mean pressure across the membrane.

The ideas are explored primarily by calculations and combinations of various known numerical methods and modeling techniques.

Whether the ideas prove sustainable, the project is expected to qualify the knowledge of modeling and development of new types of microphones.

The project involves collaboration between the University of Southern Denmark and two microphone companies.
